In the first of our Staff interviews we talk to Alex Davy; illustrator and digital designer and graduate of the amazing Newcastle College Animation and Illustration course. Alex has been working with us at Arcus Studios and a variety of projects over the last six months!
Hey Alex! Thanks for being our illustrator. What are you into?
Hey James! Im into Cooking, baking (but only cookies, I’m rubbish at cake!), graphic design,
lettering, story-driven games, creative talks, illustration, web design and
2D animation – too many specifics to list here!
What is a weird fact about you?
I was in the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics as one of
the volunteer dancers.
What inspired you to become an illustrator?
A manager at my past job as a jeweller told me that she’d always
wanted to become a dance teacher but kept putting it off and instead got
comfortable at the jewellers because it was a nice job and the team
were nice. I knew then that I had to quit, get an animation degree, and
go do what I’d been doing since childhood and was best at!
Describe yourself in three words.
Daft, positive, tomboy!
What is your biggest pet peeve?
Bad table manners, my mum drummed that into me.
What’s the most underrated film of all time?
Persepolis! It annoys me that it isn’t on telly all the time so more people
can see it.
Tell us a joke.
Q. Why did the baker have smelly fingers…?
A. Because he kneaded a poo!
