E4 Candyland

E4 Candyland

In a cosmos of confection a lunatic lumberjack goes to town on a pick and mix planet. Tasty!

Our animated ident for E4’s new identy.

We were approached by E4 to join a limited number of other UK studios in creating an ident to show off the channel four rebrand. The whole studio came together to pitch ideas and together we created our 30 seconds of madness.

BBC Bitesize – Historical People

BBC Bitesize – Historical People

We created a fun new series of animations for BBC Bitesize all about famous people from History!

Neil Armstrong, Emmeline Pankhurst, Guy Fawkes and Mary Anning are brought to life as they reflect on their past, telling their stories directly to the viewer.

Bitesize work is always enjoyable, but it can also educational for those working on it. During production we learnt about the cool sparking device Guy would have been using as matches hadn’t been invented yet, and also that our animator Mark can do a pretty great President Kennedy impression.

Giving the public the facts to make an informed decision on their data…

We were asked by Connected Health Cities to create an animation explaining ‘The Great North Care Record’
We used a combination of character animation and motion graphics to illustrate the benefits of allowing you medical information to be shared, with your explicit consent, between authorised health and social care practitioners.

The Great North Care Record is a new way of sharing medical information across the North East and North Cumbria which is accessed by authorised health and social care practitioners.

It means that key information about your health such as diagnoses, medications, details of hospitals admissions and treatments is shared between different healthcare services including hospitals, out of hours and ambulance services who could all be involved in your care.

It was important in the animation to communicate the usefulness of this data, the sensitivity of it’s use, and that the choice and consent to share it is firmly in the hands of those who’s data it is.
Giving the public the facts to make an informed decision on their data. The characters also needed to seem human and relatable, animator Lia Ward said “The illustrative character style provided a fun challenge to rig and animate”

Little Miss Inventor

Little Miss Inventor

Featuring fun inventions and possibly the cutest voice over ever, meet Little Miss Inventor!

‘She’s intelligent, creative, and loves to invent things to help make the world a better place. Meet Little Miss Inventor, the newest addition to the Mr Men and Little Misses! http://amzn.to/2FqxZOY Little Miss Inventor was as bright as a button. In fact she was as bright as two buttons – she even built a house on wheels! Normally she has no problem thinking up ideas, but last week she was given a challenge that left her with no idea what to invent. She had to make a birthday present for Mr Rude. And she did not have a clue.’

We were delighted to work with Egmont once again, this time bringing to life Little Miss Inventor, the newest addition to the Mr Men, Little Miss series by Roger and Adam Hargreaves.

Macmillan Education: Heroes

Macmillan Education: Heroes

A short trailer of the goings on of Squirrel and Mr Hare.

‘MacMillan Education – Heroes (Squirrel and Mr Hare)’ was a series of 12 animations created as part of MacMillan Educations ‘Heroes’ language curriculum for the Spanish market.

We adapted artwork from the textbooks that accompany the animations in classrooms, creating dynamic rigs that included adaptable shading and clothing changes.
These proved to be a bundle of fun to work with and are another example of our expertise in rigged based 2D characters.

Augmented Empire

Augmented Empire

We were approached by our friends and frequent collaborators, video games and VR specialists Coatsink, to create a trailer for their new game ‘Augmented Empire’

Augmented Empire is a turn-based tactical RPG and the first of its kind designed purely for VR.

Augmented Empire takes place on the island of New Savannah, an isolated neo-noir city divided into three tiers by the Citizen Grade
System. From the armchair of your secluded hideout, control a team of six misfits in a world rendered as ‘augmented reality’, while
interacting with the office around you to investigate new developments, make calls, and refine the skills of your team.

We worked with two of the games artists, Nick Adrian who provided us with backgrounds for many of the shots adapted from the games concept art and Lucy Kyriakidou, who’s incredible character design provided the basis for our depiction of Ashley
We put together frame by frame hand drawn animation with multi plane backgrounds to allow for some dynamic camera moves before drenching the whole thing in rain and neon lights.

NIHRIO – Newcastle University

NIHRIO – Newcastle University

We were approached to create this motion design focused animation to accompany the launch announcement of the ‘National Institute for Health Research Innovation Observatory’ based at Newcastle University.

Narrated by the director of NIHRIO Professor Michael Trenell, the animation is a visual journey through the new tools and state-of-the-art data analytics that will help explore trends in health innovation across drugs, medical technologies, diagnostic tools and healthcare services.

Creating an animation based purely on form and movement, rather then character and narrative, provided us with delightful challenge of our core animation and visual communication skills.

Oxbridge Home Learning

Oxbridge Home Learning

An explainer video for Oxbridge Home Learning, a provider of quality distance learning courses.  We were particularly pleased with use of lighting in this video, as Jess’ life goes from gloomy to bright as Oxbridge courses give her career a new lease of life.  We also love the dog and his bouncy walk cycle!

Teesside University – Alcohol Questionnaire

Teesside University – Alcohol Questionnaire

This video was created to be a preface to students taking a questionnaire on alcohol use for a health study.  It was important to communicate their anonymity in order to encourage honest answers.

We produced the animation for the School of Health at Teesside University, in collaboration with the School of Computing. Teenagers who would be taking the questionnaire and taking part in the study were involved through workshops in developing the look and script of the animation. Their ideas provided a great groundwork to play with some fun motion design. The final animation works as a great example of how simple icon based motion graphics can enhance a message without relying too heavily on character animation.

Arcus Loves Making Explainer Videos!

With over 100 commercials and explainer videos under our belt, we decided it was about time that we made an explainer video to explain that we make explainer videos!

Joslin Rhodes – Mytopia

Joslin Rhodes – Mytopia

Working on behalf of Wonderstuff Branding Agency we helped create this fun animation for Joslin Rhodes. We used character animation and the metaphor of a jigsaw to get across the message of Joslin Rhodes’ Mytopia product, a financial planning service that plans, builds, protects and maintains their customers’ financial portfolios

This is a great example of how character animation can bring an idea to life, creating relateable on-screen viewer analogues that make a message easier to digest. We also managed to get a Godzilla, Zeus and a UFO in the mix, keeping things light and the viewer engaged. We had loads of fun with this one!

Kykloud

Kykloud

An explainer video for the Kykloud Surveying app, which makes surveying super simple!

For this animation we played with using one morphing line to emphasise the idea of a streamlined surveying process, enabling each scene to merge smoothly into the next. This was used on Kyklouds front page to explain the app and service.
